Jones County's Courthouse-Basement Jail
Jones County operates a notably small and old facility. The original 18-bed jail section was built with the courthouse in 1939. Three beds for females were added in 2009, bringing the published capacity to 21 beds. The jail remains in the basement of the Jones County Courthouse at the same 101 Market Street complex.
This physical closeness can hide a record distinction. The clerk and Portal establish what happened in the legal case. The jail record establishes when physical departure occurred and whether another agency assumed custody. A court order can precede jail release while staff complete checks and processing.
No DAC prison is physically located in Jones County. Nearby Craven Correctional Institution is a state processing center in Craven County, not a Jones facility and not a guaranteed assignment for every Jones County transferee.
